When it comes to the truth of workplace deaths and work-related suicides, Hazards Campaign is far more authoritative than the HSE which has now become a mere audience member when enforcing as it is supposed to do; the H&S legislation of this country! Hazards Campaign have produced a detailed report into the true levels of deaths of workers killed by their work and the number of work-related suicides that occur each year. Entitled, 'The Whole Story' the document provides the evidence of a scale of work-related deaths and illness that the 'official figures' published by the HSE, does not! In fact HSE figures give a totally false picture of accidents, injuries and deaths caused by work in Great Britain. In the words of the report, the HSE is: "Failing to expose the impact of employers’ non-compliance and criminal negligence, means that the actual risk that workers and members of the public face are underestimated, and that cuts continue to be made to our health, safety and welfare regulation and enforcement." In doing so, the HSE remains a body which enables ignorance amongst employers and indeed allows employers abdication of their legal responsibility to protect their employees from harm and ill-health which work processes, equipment, and materials may cause. It does this by deliberately ignoring workplace or work related suicides, deaths whilst travelling on work or to work, and minimising work-place inspections and prosecuting of guilty employers who cause injury and death to their workers because of complacancy, irresponsibility; and putting profit before lives.
